The White Pigeon volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the New Buffalo Tournament Saturday and lost to Galesburg-Augusta 9-21, 9-21. The Chiefs won two of three matches in pool play, defeating Eau Claire and Three Oaks River Valley and dropping a two-game match to Michigan Lutheran.
They faced Three Oaks River Valley again in the quarterfinals and won 11-21, 21-13, 18-16.
Bethany Hagner had 39 kills and 16 digs, Rachel Brock registered 10 aces and 44 digs and Danielle Chantrenne had 35 kills and 22 assists to lead the Chiefs, which improved to 14-8-1 overall. Skyler DeMeyer put up 70 assists, nine kills and 17 digs and Riley Phelps added seven kills and five blocks.
“We had a stretch where we played our best volleyball of the season,” White Pigeon coach Tony Hooley said. “One of the key performances came from our freshman setter, Skyler DeMeyer. It was easily her best day this year. That allowed our outside hitters, Bethany Hagner and Dani Chantrenne, to have their most productive days as a pair as well. Rachel Brock continues to excel as our libero and had a great day at the service line.”
