Centreville’s softball season ended in Saturday’s regional semifinal at Parchment as the Bulldogs were defeated 8-2 against Watervliet. The defeat to the eighth-ranked Panthers ends Centreville’s season with a 21-8 record.
The Bulldogs opened ahead as Kamryn Troyer started the game with a leadoff double and was brought in by Abbe Wherrett’s RBI single. The 1-0 score held until Watervliet scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Panthers added three more in the fifth and another three in the sixth, finishing with 11 hits to Centreville’s five. The other Bulldog run was scored by Troyer in the sixth on a Watervliet error.
Faith Edwards was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs with a final line of 4.2 innings, seven hits allowed, five runs (four earned), and five strikeouts. Hannah Lennard relieved her and surrendered four hits and three earned runs over 1.1 innings. Hannah Hart started for the Panthers with four innings, four hits, and one earned run against her. Jaylie Querfurth finished with one hit and an unearned run over three innings.
Offensively, Watervliet’s Grace Chisek had three hits, two runs, and an RBI. A Riley knocked in three on two hits. All five Centreville hits were doubles with two apiece by Troyer and Wherett and one from Edwards.
The Panthers improve to 36-4 with the win, sending them to the regional championship game.
