The Bobcats made Monday’s tri-match more interesting than necessary, Burr Oak volleyball coach Kris Owens said, but they came away with two victories nonetheless.
Burr Oak took down Calhoun Christian 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 in the first match and beat Marshall Academy 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 in the second.
Brooke Cooper accounted for 27 points, six aces and 33 assists. Michaela Ultz had 25 points, 12 kills and eight digs, Sydney Owens finished with 30 points, nine aces and 10 kills, Jade Lown had a team-high 21 digs, Chelsey Boyd added seven aces and 10 kills and Jade Summey posted 10 dills, five aces and 20 digs.
“Tonight’s matches were closer scores than I would have liked because we had some pretty significant leads we were unable to keep,” Owens said. “Going into our final league game this Thursday and districts next Friday we will be focusing on discipline; discipline in each position and maintaining focus. Our offense needs to run a faster tempo and play each point to place the ball to make a kill. We have to be better at reading the floor as well as the body language of the opposing teams.”
