Burr Oak’s volleyball team charged to its seventh victory of the year, and first in Southern Central Athletic Association play, with Thursday’s home win over Litchfield. The Bobcats finished 0-14 in the league last year and are looking to climb the ranks with the 2013 season now in full swing.
After dropping the opening game 19-25, Burr Oak closed out the match easily with scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-22.
“As you can see by the score pattern, my team was hot and cold tonight,” Burr Oak coach Kris Owens said.
Sydney Owens notched 25 points, eight aces, 10 kills and four assists to lead the Bobcats offensively. Libero Tori Everitt took charge defensively and made it hard for Jackson Christian to finds its rhythm. She worked at a 90-percent clip in serve-receive and registered four important digs.

Michaela Ultz had 17 points, a pair of aces, eight kills and four digs, Jade Summey added 10 points, four aces, seven kills and two digs.
Burr Oak is now 7-2 overall and 1-2 in the SCAA.
“They are inconsistent at this point —still young,” Owens said. “Their mental game needs work and they are struggling with confidence.
My middle fronts have struggled with placing the ball, but did look better tonight. I feel confident with our serving game, but serve receive still needs practice.
“As always, back to practice tomorrow to prepare for our matches next week. Bellevue on Tuesday and Camden on Thursday. Camden is a double header and will be two tough matches.”
