Burr Oak volleyball closes regular season with a victory

November 1, 2013 By Wes Morgan

The Burr Oak volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 25-11, 25-21, 25-21 win over Tekonsha Thursday. The Bobcats have a first-round by at districts and will take on the winner of the Colon-Athens quarterfinal match next Friday.

“It was nice to end the regular season with a win,” Burr Oak coach Kris Owens said. “I hope my girls can carry the energy they had tonight into districts next Friday.

“Senior Michaela Ultz, who has played in every match for four years on varsity, played every point tonight like it was her last and only had two errors playing all around in each set. [That was] very impressive and [she will be a] huge loss for us next year.”

Brooke Cooper scored 15 points and totaled four aces and 16 assists, Michaela Ultz tallied nine points, 12 kills and four blocks, Sydney Owens had 13 points, four aces, six kills and eight digs and
Jade Lown produced 21 points, five aces and four digs. Chelsey Boyd finished with eight points, five kills and four digs
and Jade Summey produced seven points, three kills and three digs.

Summey was 8 for 8 on service receptions, Tori Everitt was 6 for 7 and added four digs. Jasmine Patton had three digs.

“Jade Summey, another senior, had a great night on serve receive and kept the team focused. Tori Everitt, my libero, who has been battling a shoulder injury for a few weeks, kept us up defensively and kept our back row moving and talking.”
