The Burr Oak varsity volleyball team took home an early season title Saturday after defeating Marshall Academy in three sets in the finals of the Tekonsha Tournament.
After rolling through three pool play matches undefeated, the Bobcats topped the host team 25-12, 25-15 in the semifinals and went on to beat Marshall Adademy 25-16, 17-25, 15-9 in the championship.
Seniors Michaela Ultz and Jade Summey combined for 47 kills and 20 blocks, with Ultz serving up a team-high 10 aces and registering 54 digs on the day. Summey added nine aces and 42 digs. Brooke Cooper and Sydney Owens, both 8th-graders playing varsity, collected 17 total aces. Cooper had 25 assists to lead the team. Junior Jade Lown came away with 29 digs, one behind sophomore Chelsey Boyd.
