The Burr Oak boys baseball team lost a 12-7 game to visiting Tekonsha Monday to open the 2014 season. With a 4-2 lead in the second game of an SCAA doubleheader, the Bobcats fell victim to dwindling daylight and the contest was called due to darkness.
“We played two tough games tonight and errors plagued us,” said Burr Oak head coach Dave Brackett, whose team only allowed two earned runs in the opener. “We have a lot to work on going into next week when we have three doubleheaders. It was nice to get some game action in we have a lot to work on and gives some of the younger players some live action.”
Christian Eckert went 3 for 5 at the plate with five RBI, Chantz Owens scored two runs on a pair of hits, Cole Summey had a hit and one RBI and Brandon Hernandez had a hit and one RBI.
Summey took the loss in the first game.
“Tonight we came out a little rusty in the beginning but when we started to get into a rhythm and finally got our bats going,” said Eckert, who was on the bump in the second game. We started to play good. This is a young team and we have a lot of potential.”
