Listen live via JoeInsider.com Friday evening as Portage Northern hosts Portage Central in a Pre-District Division 2 postseason football game. It will be the 62nd all-time gridiron meeting between the crosstown rivals and seventh playoff battle.
The Huskies are the top seed in their district pod at 8-1, their best regular season finish since 2010. PN hopes to build off last season’s historic regional final berth and thus far are scoring 41.9 points per game while allowing 15.2 per contest. They also took the SMAC West title alone at 5-0.
By playoff points, the Mustangs are the second-to-last team in the Division 2 field at 5-4 overall. That mark was enough for their eighth consecutive winning season and playoff berth. They’ve been a playoff team 13 times now in 14 seasons. PC is scoring 19.2 per game while allowing 24.0.
Their regular season meeting saw a 56-26 Portage Northern victory in their first battle at the newly renovated McCamley Field. The Huskies also won their 2018 playoff meeting 35-7, although PC holds the playoff edge all-time 4-2 and overall series 39-22.
Historically, the playoff rematch usually differs wildly in score from the regular season contest. Four of the six prior playoff games saw the regular season loser on the winning side in the postseason. On average, the playoff result has averaged a 26.8 point margin difference versus the regular season result.
