White Pigeon held off a late challenge, picking up a 58-54 road boys basketball win against Mendon Tuesday. The Chiefs’ Chris Jackson was one point and one assist away from posting a triple-double.
“Man what a game tonight, came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard but these kids played hard,” said Hornets coach Danny Schragg. “We struggled most of the game with making shots, but we had a lot of hustle points off steals and fast breaks that kept us in the game and only down two at halftime.”
Wesley Roberts led all scorers with 14 points for WP. Jack McCaw had 12 points for Mendon.
“We came out in the third and made some good plays, but they hit a couple huge threes and went on a run,” said Schragg. “We were down like 12 with two minutes left and down 10 with a minute left, but these kids never gave up. We made some steals and they missed some free throws and we were about to battle back and get within a few points but time just ran out. Free throws hurt us again but sooner or later they’re going to fall, tough one tonight but we never gave up.”
White Pigeon is now 6-7 overall and 6-2 in the Southwest 10 Confernece. WP plays at Constantine Saturday night. Mendon is now 5-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play with a home game Thursday with Centreville.
