It was a difficult week for the Sturgis varsity girls soccer team, but the Trojans continue to compete hard in an attempt to climb back to .500 by season’s end. The Trojans most recently tied Wolverine Conference foe Vicksburg 1-1 Monday.
Junior forward Meg Scheske, our Boland Best One Soccer Player of the Week for St. Joseph County, was responsible for the assist on Maddi Allan’s goal that tied the match in the second half.
In a 4-2 loss last Friday to Three Rivers, Scheske chipped the deficit to two goals with a score with 14:44 left in the match on a chip shot over the Wildcat keeper. In Monday’s 9-2 defeat against Paw Paw, Scheske put the first goal on the board early in the first half with a breakaway, and she scored Sturgis’ second goal on another breakaway with just under eight minutes remaining.
