Hackett Catholic hosted Constantine for a SAC Valley division baseball doubleheader Thursday afternoon. The Irish narrowly edged the Falcons in two high-scoring games with finals of 10-9 and 16-15.
In game one, Hackett exploded with a seven-run first inning and stayed ahead from there, although Constantine almost tied the game with a six-run seventh inning. For HCP, Steven Widger had a home run, triple, and single for three RBI and two runs. Brenden Collins added four RBI. For the Falcons, Trevor Tice and Caleb Hall scored twice.
Game two was back-and-forth early until the Irish went up 13-6 via a six-run fourth inning. Constantine again rallied late, this time tying the game at 15 in the top of the seventh. Sam Shea would bring in Widger for a Hackett walkoff single in the bottom half.
Stephen Kwapis had five RBI in game two, four coming via a grand slam. For the Falcons, Brayden Clark drew four walks and got two hits, leading to two runs and three RBI.
The wins push HCP to 15-7 and they host the Mary Carr Invitational Saturday. Constantine falls to 11-11 and travels to the River Valley Invitational Saturday.
