Welcome to JoeInsider.com — a product born of a passion for sports and storytelling (certainly not financial sense). After spending the better part of the last decade figuring out this journalism thing for publications such as the Kalamazoo Gazette (2004-11), ESPN and ESPNChicago.com (2009-11), 247Sports and Blue & Gold Illustrated (2011-13), I figured it was about time to get back to my roots.
St. Joseph County is where I spent most of my formative years. It’s where I first laid eyes on a pretty girl who (against her better judgment) eventually became my wife, gave us two wonderful sons and put up with a husband being on the road nine months out of the year for six straight years documenting a certain independent university’s football and basketball teams. Now we’re happy to again call St. Joseph County home. But enough about me.
This publication is about sharing and celebrating the abundant athletic accomplishments and unique stories from our corner of Michigan. It’s about rich tradition, rivalries, overcoming adversity, buzzer-beaters, beating the odds, heartbreak, performance, perseverance, cheers, and “maybe next year.” With an emphasis on covering varsity athletics at Burr Oak, Centreville, Colon, Constantine, Mendon, Sturgis, Three Rivers and White Pigeon, as well as the stable of teams at Glen Oaks Community College, JoeInsider.com hopes to also touch on outdoors activities and highlight homegrown competitors of all ages. In January of 2018, we expanded to cover Kalamazoo County and look forward to growing our readership there.
Everyone has a story. JoeInsider.com is listening.
