Gull Lake defeated Sturgis 58-38 in Wednesday’s District 14 boys basketball semifinal from Lakeview.
The Trojans stayed within single digits through the first third quarters, but great free throw shooting sealed it for the Blue Devils in the fourth. Gull Lake went 17-20 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Caleb Taylor led the Blue Devils with 17 points, going 8-8 on free throws. Zach Collard scored 13 with a 9-12 mark from the line.
Bradyn Webb led the Sturgis scoring with 14 points, followed by 11 from Thomas Kurowski. The Trojans finish with a 9-12 record and graduate seniors Luke Larimer, Treyton Wallick, and Tyler Lewis.
Gull Lake moves to 13-9 and faces Coldwater at 7 p.m. in Friday’s district championship at Lakeview. The Cardinals (16-6) beat Lakeview 61-56 in their semifinal. It’s a rematch of last season’s district final, which Coldwater won 55-48. GL’s last district crown was in 2010.
