Kalamazoo Christian’s boys golf team topped runner-up Schoolcraft by a stroke, finishing with a round of 332 Wednesday at the White Pigeon Invitational at Klinger Lake Country Club. White Pigeon was fourth (351) and Centreville was sixth (399).
The Comets’ Colin Sikkenga was in a zone, firing a score of 71 for an individual victory. White Pigeon’s Jordan Olsen and Lake Michigan Catholic’s Corey Seger tied for second with 79.
Cole Shafer shot 85 for the Chiefs, Hayden Krogh scored a round of 93, Blaine Shafer carded a 94 and Donovan Snook finished with 100.
For Centreville, Carter Geigly led the way with 88, followed by teammates Hana Tereyama (91), Shawn Larsen (101), and Jeremiah Koller (119).
“Today was a pretty good day and we looked really good in spurts,” White Pigeon coach Mark Olsen said. “We also looked pretty shaky in stretches. With the exception of Schoolcraft, everyone here today will be at the regional event on May 31. Kalamazoo Christian finished 2nd in the state last year and Kalamazoo Hackett finished 7th. The two Kalamazoo schools and Lake Michigan Catholic are good teams. At the Regional, only three teams will advance to the state finals, so I am expecting a hard fought regional.”
