Sophomore Claycee West poured in 29 points in White Pigeon’s 36-20 girls basketball season-opening victory Tuesday at River Valley.
West also registered seven rebounds, four steals and an assist.
“We started off really slow; we didn’t make a basket the first quarter, but we started to really pick up our defense in the second quarter,” Chiefs coach Brooke McClure said. “Then Claycee started hitting, especially in the third quarter with four 3s. That gave us more motivation as a team to play more aggressive defensively and we only allowed 10 points in the second half. I am really proud of all the girls working together to get our first win of the season.”
Melissa Hayden scored four points to go with seven boards, Sidney Mishler chipped in three points, six rebounds and four assists, and Shanna Hagner had two rebounds, an assist, one steal and a block.
Also contributing for White Pigeon were Reyna Fielis, who had four rebounds, one assist and one steal, Clara Varela, who grabbed a pair of rebounds, and Courtney Delarye, who finished with three boards.
