Centreville played one game en route to a Division 4 district softball title Saturday. With byes until the championship game, the Bulldogs proceeded to pummel Marcellus 12-3 to earn a spot in next weekend’s regional semifinals against Decatur.
It’s the first district championship for Centreville since 2011.
A 1-1 tie through three innings was broken when the Bulldogs plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Marcellus managed to score two more in the top of the fifth, but Centreville closed out the game strong with a six-run sixth.
Mckenzie Sheteron went the distance and scattered six hits and gave up two earned runs. Without a walk, she finished with three strikeouts in the win.
Kenleigh West Wing had four hits with a double, Makenzie Troyer was 3-for-5, Sheteron had two hits, Joanna Larsen hit a home run, and Jaeden Blades, Skyler DeMeyer, Kaylee Trattles, Olivia Deeds and Emma Russell singled.
Larsen drove in three runs, Russell and DeMeyer each finished with two RBI, and Trattles and West Wing drove in one apiece.
