Abi Larimer and Laci Gottschalk represented the Sturgis varsity girls swimming and diving team at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state championship meet over the weekend at Eastern Michigan University.
Gottschalk is just the second freshman diver from Sturgis to qualify for the finals, and she ended up 19th overall in the event with a score of 216.20. The top 16 performers Friday advanced to the finals on Saturday.
Larimer, a senior, competed in the 500 freestyle and improved her career-best time by five seconds in Friday’s Preliminaries (5 minutes, 26.48 seconds) en route to a 16th-place finish in Saturday’s consolation finals (5:38.64).
“It was a great weekend; the girls did fantastic,” Sturgis coach Laura Penner said.
