Crucial 3-point buckets by De’Ashia Sanders and Sage Groves in the fourth quarter helped list the Sturgis varsity girls basketball team to a 37-34 Wolverine Conference victory Tuesday at Paw Paw.
Sturgis trailed 26-22 in the low-scoring affair heading into the fourth quarter.
“The first game back from break is always tough,” Sturgis coach Amie Burger said. “We struggled from the beginning to get into any kind of flow on offense. We are still working on patience within the offense to get better scoring opportunities. We had plenty of bunny shots we must start converting on. We continued to keep fighting and finally in the fourth quarter we hit some big shots.
“Lindsay Kiss also contributed four points. Madisyn Wanamaker hit her free throws to help seal the win. We have only played at home once this year, so we are looking forward to playing at home this Friday night against Three Rivers.”
