Battle Creek St. Philip improved to 4-2 Friday with a 60-8 victory over Burr Oak, which is still searching for its first victory of the 8-Man Football season.
The Bobcats’ lone touchdown of the game came in the first quarter on a six-yard run by Braxton Hernandez. He also caught the two-point conversion pass from Zach Boyd.
St. Philip scored 16 points in the first quarter, 30 in the second and 14 in the third.
“After that first drive, we were not very consistent after big plays here and there, failing to capitalize on forward momentum,” Burr Oak coach Ryan Stephens said. “This was the trend all night long including on a reverse to Zach Boyd that was stopped on the goal line on the last play of the game by the St Phil defense.
“Defensively, our three- and four-man defensive front failed to penetrate the Tigers’ offensive line, being outplayed physically. Our secondary also did not do a very good job staying with their receivers in man coverage with their eyes in the backfield. Fundamentals will be the emphasis in practice in the upcoming week against an undefeated Camden Frontier.”
