Listen live online Tuesday via JoeInsider.com as Schoolcraft plays Ypsilanti Arbor Prep in a Class C girls basketball state quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. from Bronson High School.
Schoolcraft enters at 24-0, one of two unbeaten teams left in the Class C field. The Eagles are into the elite eight for the second consecutive season, first achieving the feat one year ago.
They claimed the regional title Thursday with a 50-43 win over Niles Brandywine, capped by 26 points from leading-scorer Lydia Goble. Schoolcraft topped conference foe Hackett Catholic 47-36 in their previous game. The Eagles are scoring 56.3 points per game while allowing 35.3, with only two of their games all season determined by a single-digit margin.
Arbor Prep comes in at 19-5, boasting a remarkable history already in girls basketball since the school opened its doors in 2011. Last season, they were the Class B runner-up to Detroit Country Day. Two seasons ago, they took home the Class C state championship. This is their fifth consecutive quarterfinal appearance.
The Gators topped Grass Lake 51-38 and Manchester 48-37 last week to claim yet another regional crown. After an 8-5 start to the season, they’ve rattled off 11 straight wins. They’re highlighted by Lasha Petree, one of four statewide finalists for the Miss Basketball award.
