Kali Heivilin and the Three Rivers varsity softball team are in a zone at 23-3 this season with only a couple weeks remaining before postseason play begins. Heivilin, the first local player to be named Safety Glasses USA Softball Player of the Week for St. Joseph County two times this year, terrorized pitchers last week.
On Saturday at the Tri-County Tournament, the Wildcats put up 48 runs in wins over Allendale, Tri-County Area and Lakeview. Heivilin was 4-for-4 in the opener against Lakeview, which included her 11thhomer of the year — a school single-season record. She hit her 12th— a grand slam — against Tri-County Area.
In those three games combined, Heivilin had seven hits and 10 RBI.
Teah Mayer previously held the school record after hitting 10 dingers in 2016.
Heivilin, who is second on the team with a .541 batting average, is one of eight Wildcats to homer this season and the team has a combined 29 round-trippers. Her current slugging percentage is 1.176.
