With a 4-1 record last week, the Centreville varsity baseball team moved to 15-4-1 for the year. Veteran outfielder Nick Weber, our Safety Glasses USA Baseball Player of the Week for St. Joseph County, has helped make the loss of several talented players from last year’s regional-qualifying squad, and a coaching transition, look pretty easy.
The senior leads the team with 26 hits and a .433 batting average this spring. He has also batted in a team-best 22 runs. Weber also has registered two victories on the hill with a total of seven innings pitched.
Last week the Bulldogs swept Southwest 10 Conference foe Hartford 8-2 and 6-5, lost a 9-8 battle against Schoolcraft, and took two league games against Eau Claire, 11-0 and 15-1.
Weber finished with nine hits (four doubles) and 5 RBI in those games.
