Portage Northern pummeled Loy Norrix for 19-7 and 16-2 victories Thursday, picking up 30 hits between 10 innings against a frayed Knight pitching staff.
After a solo run in the first inning, the Husky offense came alive with four runs in the second and five in the third. Loy Norrix’s Yohaness Ademodi gave them some hope with a three-run home run in the third, but Portage Northern put the game out of reach on an eight-run fifth inning.
Tyler Helgeson had a monster game at the plate with six RBI, five runs, and four hits. Among the hits were two homers and a triple. Noah Hecht had three runs with two hits and two RBI. Also scoring twice were Jon Wolf, Gannon Andrews, and Nolan McCarthy. Ademodi’s four RBI with two hits and two runs served as a bright spot for the Knights.
