Cassie Plummer tossed a no-hitter for Mendon on senior night in a 15-0 softball victory against visiting New Buffalo Tuesday, and Hannah Duchene allowed only two hits in another 15-0 win for the Hornets.
In the opener, Plummer, a senior captain, only needed four innings to get the job done as she kept the Bison’s bats quiet and her teammates were able to compile 11 hits in the game and record 11 runs in the bottom of the third. Plummer finished with six strikeouts and a walk.
Amaijha Baley, Lauren Lash (triple) and Cierra Nightingale each had two hits, and Duchene, Hannah Frye, Juliana Hagenbuch, Kennedy Hawkins and Abby Miller singled. Miller led the team with four RBIs, Hawkins had three, and Lash, Duchene, Hagenbuch and Nightingale drove in one apiece.
Stealing bases for the Hornets were Hagenbuch, Hawkins, Plummer, Skyler Wood and Bailey.
In Game 2, Duchene struck out seven batters and did not issue a walk.
Lash was 3-for-3, Bailey singled twice, and Plummer and Duchene singled and drove in three runs apiece. Lash, Bailey and Hawkins had one RBI. Bailey recorded three steals, Hagenbuch and Frye both stole two bases, and Nicole Parsons, Plummer, Wood and Lash stole one each.
“Seniors Cassie Plummer and Hannah Frye had huge nights on senior night,” Mendon coach Christina Duchene said. “Both seniors lead our team with direction and both of them being four-year starters brings a lot of knowledge to our team.”
