Tied at 37-37 heading into the fourth quarter, the Sturgis and Paw Paw varsity boys basketball teams looked to provide an exciting finish for the crowd at Sturgis Tuesday. Instead, the Trojans ran out of steam over the final eight minutes and Paw Paw caught fire for a 64-48 Wolverine Conference victory.
The Redskins’ Luke Toliver poured in 12 of his game-high 24 points in the final period and Paw Paw was a collective 10-of-13 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Karsen Barnhart was responsible for 13 points and Zachary LeForge finished with 11.
Brecken Stewart led Sturgis with 14 points and Zach Chapman had 13, which included three 3-pointers. Sam Leck finished with seven, Thomas Kurowski had six, Drew Murphy added five and Joe Wynes hit a trey. Sturgis was 15-of-25 as a team from the stripe for the game but only had two attempts in the fourth quarter.
