A 13-point advantage in the third quarter helped the Mendon varsity girls basketball team put away host White Pigeon Tuesday, 51-38, in Southwest 10 Conference play.
The Hornets led 6-3 after the first quarter and 18-16 at halftime, but an 18-5 run in the third quarter was the difference. Mendon improved to 6-8 overall and 6-7 in the league as a result. White Pigeon dropped to 4-10 and 3-10 in the conference.
Cierra Nightingale put up 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Mendon, and teammate Hayley Kramer also had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Hannah Duchene added seven points, 15 boards and two assists, while Amaijha Bailey, MacKenzie Urick and Taylor Heitkamp each scored four points. Aubrey Crotser chipped in two points and a steal.
Bailey secured five rebounds and made five assists, Urick had two boards, and Heitkamp registered two rebounds and two steals.
For White Pigeon, Claycee West notched 22 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Shanna Hagner had eight points and five rebounds, Sidney Mishler tallied three points, eight boards and three assists, Clara Varela had three points and six rebounds, and Katie Long added two points.
