After trailing 9-6 at the end of the first quarter Thursday at home, the Mendon varsity boys basketball team held Centreville to one point in the second quarter and went on to win the Southwest 10 Conference game 37-29.
Hunter Lovell led a Hornet offense that struggled most of the night, but he was able to reach double figures with a 13-point effort. Cole Decker added seven and Tonny Yueng finished with six. Arjun Vorster chipped in five, Keaton Crotser had four, and both Lukas Crotser and Noah Slaughter hit free throws for Mendon, which finished the game 50 percent from the stripe (13-of-26).
Lovell posted a double-double after leading the team with 10 rebounds. Vorster grabbed six, Yueng and Keaton Crotser both pulled down five, and Decker, Corbin Weinberg and Slaugher all finished with three. Decker notched two assists and two steals, Keaton Crotser made four steals, and Lovell had three steals.
Trent Kindig registered a team-high 10 points for Centreville. Ross Hunter had six, McClain Lemings and Nick Weber each added five, Hayden Stauffer had two and Sam Todd had one.
