The Mendon varsity baseball team capped the regular season with 6-4 and 1-0 victories against Marcellus Tuesday.
Wyatt Cool only allowed two hits in the opener and he finished with four strikeouts and three walks in the victory. Mendon (16-11) led 2-1 after the first inning before Marcellus got hot at the plate with a three-run second inning to take a 4-2 advantage. The Hornets scored a run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to regain the lead for good. Gabe Parks threw one inning for the save.
Cool and Emmett Bingaman (double) both had two hits, and Braxton Samson, Mikki Feister and Hunter Lovell (triple) recorded one apiece. Parks, Cool, Feister and Lovell drove in runs. Parks, Feister and Lovell stole bases for the Hornets.
Mendon got the only run it needed in the second inning of Game 2. Cole Decker was the winning pitcher, going all five innings with three hits allowed. He struck out five and walked two.
Samson doubled and singled, and Diekman, Bingaman, Noah Slaughter and Corbin Weinberg singled. Samson, Bingaman and Slaughter stole bases.
