Hackett Catholic Prep 61, Galesburg-Augusta 40
Hackett Catholic Prep used a balanced scoring attack Friday night to post a 61-40 boys basketball victory over host Galesburg-Augusta.
The victory boosted Hackett’s overall record to 13-2 and 8-1 in conference play.
A total of eight Irish players broke into the scoring column. Cooper Smith led the way for HCP with 15 points, while teammate Heath Baldwin chipped in with 13 points.
The Irish also got nine points from Aidan Gillig, seven points from Andrew Widger and six points from Casey Gallagher. Jacob Neisen (5 points), Brenna Creek (4 points) and Max Keenan (2 points) rounded out the scoring for Hackett.
Matthew Wilkerson led the Rams with a team-high 11 points, while Trevor Patterson chipped in with 10. Thurman McDaniel added seven points, Austyn Dunn finished with six points, and the Rams got two points, apiece, from Max THmpson, Abner Snyder, and Gavin Miller.
Marshall Academy 61, Climax-Scotts 47
One lopsided quarter was too much to overcome for Climax-Scott, which fell to Marshall Academy 61-47.
Everything was squared up at 10 following the first quarter, but Marshall Academy opened things up with a 21-8 edge in the second quarter. Marshall Academy would essentially maintain its lead in the second half, outscoring Climax-Scotts by three points in the final half.
Climax-Scotts was led by Cole Eshuis, who scored 22 points and added 9 steals as well as seven rebounds. Jake Lane added 13 points and 9 rebounds, while Brock Borden had seven points and eight rebounds.
Both teams were frequent visitors to the free-throw line, combining for 62 attempts from the stripe. Climax-Scotts finished 21-of-30 from the line.
Marshall Academy got a boost from the perimeter, with five three-pointers as a team. TJ Showers hit three three-pointers, and scored a game-high 34 points.

Portage Northern 72, Battle Creek Central 51
Cam French, Tyler Amos and Michael Lincoln combined for 40 points Friday night to lead coach Ben Neal’s Portage Northern boys basketball team to a 72-51 victory over host Battle Creek Central.
Lincoln and Amos teamed for three buckets from behind the 3-point arc during the first quarter to help ignite the Huskies to a 20-9 after eight minutes. Jeff Wilson also contributed a basket and four free throws during the first quarter.
French converted two of his four 3-point baskets during the second quarter for Portage Northern, but the Huskies led by a precarious 32-25 margin at the intermission.
Seven Huskies scored during the pivotal third quarter, and Northern took a 52-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
French led the Huskies with 16 points, while Amos and Lincoln finished with 12 points, apiece. Wilson chipped in with eight points, Devin Marshall added seven points, and Tre Walker and Isaac Sykes each scored five points.
Battle Creek got a game-high 19 points from Josh Mann, while Greg Miller and Juarae Robinson finished with 11 and nine points, respectively.
