The Kalamazoo Home School Cougars split their home varsity basketball games Tuesday against the Capital Home School Atlhetic Program (CHAP). The Cougar girls rolled the Chariots 56-28, with the Cougar boys losing 54-37.
In the girls game, Kalamazoo started with an 8-0 run and extended the score to 22-5 by the end of the first quarter and 34-13 by halftime. Lauren Tuin led the way with 17 points, 15 coming in the first half. Jenny Trumbull was next with 12. Rachel Nimtz topped the Chariots with eight. The Cougars improve to 11-3 and the Chariots fall to 3-4. It was the first-ever Cougar girls win against CHAP.
In the boys game, CHAP began the game with an 11-1 run. Kalamazoo battled back, trailing 14-6 at the end of the first, but surrendered a 8-0 run within the first 90 seconds of the second quarter. The Chariots led 33-20 by halftime and remained up by double-digits the rest of the way. All nine Chariots scored with Noah Menzel leading at 10 points. Josh McDonald had 13 and Pipo Hofstra posted 11 for the Cougars. The Cougar boys fall to 9-7 on the season and CHAP improves to 10-2.
The Cougars return to action with a varsity home doubleheader Friday against Dream Academy. CHAP hosts the Hudsonville Hornets Friday.
