Host Marcellus Howardsville Christian exploded for 34 second-quarter points Monday night and coasted to a 72-36 Class D boys district basketball victory over Colon.
Leading 53-21 at halftime, Howardsville tacked on 16 points in the third quarter, and then scored the first three points of the final stanza to invoke a running scoreboard clock with 6:31 remaining in the contest.
Howardsville got a game-high 20 points from Dylan Jergens, and teammate Logan Cornwell finished with 13, which included three 3-pointers. Lucas Withers and Colton Fair each added seven points, Reece Herschbach finished with six, Oakley Withers added four, Joshua Parks produced three, and Kolton Beachy chipped in two.
The win set up a Wednesday semifinal matchup with Martin, which beat Kalamazoo Phoenix 73-42.
Austin Stoll and Andrew Smolarz each scored 10 points for Colon. Stoll also grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while Smolarz collected two caroms.
Jonathan Smolarz added seven points, two rebounds and a blocked shot for the Magi, while Clayton Wolf and Garrick Yaudes each chipped in with three points. Wolf and Yaudes collected three and two rebounds, respectively.
Philip Alva (2 points) and Ryan Clark (1 point) rounded out the scoring for Colon.
Colon shot 33.3 percent from the field (12 of 36) and Howardsville was 26 of 50 (47.1 percent).
