The Glen Oaks Community College men’s basketball team improved to 3-3 after an 88-85 victory over the Olivet junior varsity squad on the road Thursday, bouncing back from an eight-point halftime deficit in the process.
The Vikings were led by Mike Barnfield, who posted a career high 25 points to go with six rebounds and four assists, while David Miller (White Pigeon) continued to play well, adding 22 points, and with 14 rebounds, registered his fourth straight double-double.
“Olivet is a difficult team to prepare for, since they press for most of the game. They want to create turnovers and quick shots. In the first half, they did exactly that,” said Glen Oaks Head Coach, David Victor.
“We game out in the second half and did a much better job protecting the basketball, and that lead to better shots on our end. We had a size advantage, and our guys really did an excellent job attacking the paint. Our offense really allowed our defensive energy to pick up, since we were able to prevent them from having easy buckets.”
The Vikings will have a short turnaround, as they host perennial NJCAA Division 3 power, Rock Valley College this Saturday at 5 p.m.
Jaquantay Rouser had 13 points, five boards and five assists, and Elijah Malik finished with nine points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
