The Mendon girls basketball team had no answer Friday night for Santaja Gibson.
The Cassopolis standout accounted for more than 50 percent of her team’s scoring, pouring in 28 points in a 50-37 victory over host Mendon.
Gibson was held to just four points during the first quarter, and Mendon held a 12-11 lead after eight minutes of play.
Gibson then scored all nine of her team’s points during the second quarter to stake the Rangers to a 20-16 lead at halftime, and the Rangers never looked back.
Gibson converted 10 floor shots and meshed eight of her 12 free-throw attempts.
Mendon got a team-high nine points from Hayley Kramer. Cierra Nightingale chipped in seven points for the Hornets, while Hannah Duchene, Mackenzie Urick and Amayha Bailey each finished with five points.
Taylor Heitkamp (4 points) and Aubrey Crotser (2 points) rounded out the scoring for Mendon.
