Mercedes Cole tossed a two-hit shutout in Constantine’s 4-0 softball win over Kalamazoo Christian in Game 1, and the Falcons held on for a 9-8 victory in Game 2 Wednesday for a SAC Valley Division sweep.
Schoolcraft is 10-0 and both Constantine and K-Christian are 8-2 in divisional play.
Cole collected eight strikeouts and walked one batter in the opener. Brianna Herrick (double) and Kloe Pettit (double) led the Falcons with two hits, and Kallie Sears, Kim Maddox (double) and Trasandra Ragsdale both had one. Maddox, Herrick and Pettit drove in runs.
Josilyn Derda and Sears both had a stolen base.
Emily Mallo went four innings for the win in Game 2. She scattered six hits and gave up three earned runs with one walk. Cole threw three innings with four hits and one earned run allowed with one strikeout.
Constantine trailed 2-0 heading into the third inning. The Falcons posted five runs in the frame to pull ahead for good, but a three-run sixth ensured the victory.
Macey Tulley, Maddox and Kloe Pettit all registered two hits. Maddox doubled and hit a home run — her 14th of the year, building on the single season school record. Sears, Herrick, Bailey Rodewald, Mallo and Cole singled. Maddox drove in two runs, and Tulley, Pettit, Rodewald and Mallo drove in runs. Rodewald also stole a base.
