The Concord boys baseball team defeated Colon 5-4 in Saturday’s Division 4 regional semifinals at Hudson with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With a run in the top of the first, the Magi held the lead only briefly as Concord plated four runs in the home half. Colon rallied with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.
Daniel Alva’s start lasted one inning after three hits and two earned runs allowed. He struck out one. Austin Stoll provided five innings of relief and gave up one hit, walked two and struck out five. Andy Stoll was credited with the loss in the seventh with two hits allowed.
Andrew Smolarz, Austin Stoll, Jonathan Smolarz and Brendan Barkman had hits for the Magi. Barkman drove in two runs and Chase Tomlinson, Andrew Smolarz and Matthew Bissett had one RBI apiece.
Concord lost to Hudson 12-9 in the championship game. Hudson moves on to Tuesday’s state quarterfinals against St. Joseph Lake Michigan Catholic.
