After only winning three games last season, the Colon girls varsity basketball program looks to increase the tempo, energy and number of victories in 2017-18 with first-year head coach Robbie Hattan at the helm.
Hattan, who is coming off his second year as Magi football coach, previously guided the girls basketball program at Tekonsha for four years. At his disposal this year are returning starters Keagan Bower, a senior wing who made the All-SCAA squad last year, and junior point guard Brooke Hinkley, who was an honorable mention.
Returning letter winners include Meagon Persing (Sr., guard) and Rebekah Scofield (Sr., post).

“The Magi will look to change the way they have played in the past and utilize their athleticism by running the floor and playing high pressure defense,” Hattan said. “Our goal is to get 50-60 shots up per game, our kids have to be willing to shoot the ball. The Magi will rely on their experience with Bower and Hinkley (both were All-Conference players last year). Persing will step into a larger role this year and will be expected to be a leader on this team. The Lady Magi have some young talent who are expected to contribute right away.”
