Colon saved its biggest offensive outburst until the sixth inning, scoring five runs in that frame to beat Mendon 7-2 Friday in a Division 4 district baseball championship on its home field. Colon moves on to Saturday’s regional semifinals against Concord at Hudson.
The Magi struck first in the bottom of the first with one run and Mendon tied things up in the second. Both teams plated a run in the fourth inning and went scoreless in the fifth.
Andy Stoll went the distance for the Magi, allowing only three hits in the game. He struck out seven and walked one with no earned runs allowed. Cole Decker started for Mendon but was pulled after 2 2/3 innings due to the pitch count rule. He gave up two hits, an earned run, struck out four and walked one. Gabe Parks threw 2 2/3 innings for the Hornets with six hits and four earned runs allowed. Noah Slaughter finished the sixth for Mendon.
Phillip Alva singled twice and drove in a pair of runs for Colon, and Austin Stoll doubled and singled. Chase Tomlinson (double), Daniel Alva, Andrew Smolarz, Jonathan Smolarz and Brendan Barkman finished with one hit apiece. Jonathan Smolarz drove in two runs, and Tomlinson, Daniel Alva and Barkman recorded RBIs.
Diekman, Mikki Feister and Corbin Weinberg singled for Mendon.

Colon 11, Burr Oak 6
Colon played from behind but only briefly Saturday. After Burr Oak posted two runs in the top of the first inning, the Magi plated one in the home half and four more in the second inning gain the advantage for good. Colon added two more runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. Burr Oak scored one run in the fifth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Daniel Alva was the winning pitcher for Colon after a three-inning effort that resulted in three hits and two earned runs allowed. He struck out four and walked three. Chase Tomlinson worked two innings with two hits and two earned runs given up to go with two strikeouts and a pair of walks. Phillip Alva earned the save after tossing two innings with only two hits and one earned run allowed. He finished with one strikeout.
Phillip Alva also had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Austin Stoll had three hits with a double, Tomlinson (double), Daniel Alva and Andrew Smolarz (triple) each registered two hits, and Jonathan Smolarz, Matthew Bissett (double) and Austin Jacobs had one apiece. Andrew Smolarz and Austin Stoll drove in two runs apiece, while Tomlinson and Jonathan Smolarz both had one RBI. Jonathan Smolarz, Austin Stoll, Tomlinson and Phillip Alva stole bases for the Magi.
Noah Greene threw five innings for Burr Oak and gave up 16 hits and eight earned runs. He struck out seven and walked two. Caleb Stayner pitched one inning with two walks.
Matthew Greene led the Bobcats with two hits, and Stayner, Noah Greene (home run), Brandon Hernandez, Logan Wood and Damien Ultz finished with one hit apiece.
