Cassopolis put a damper on the fun festivities Friday at Centreville with a 44-42 BCS boys basketball victory.
Winterfest was combined with Hall of Fame Night as Centreville honored its 1995 boys basketball team. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they came up a possession short after trailing most of the game.
Cassopolis, led by Shane Loss (18 points), put together a 25-18 halftime lead. Centreville stormed back in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 31-30. Chris Cooper scored four of his team-best 14 points in that frame for the Bulldogs.
Hayden Stauffer had five of his nine points in the fourth quarter, where Centreville ran out time.
“Tonight was a particularly tough loss for the team and myself,” Centreville coach Mike Hunter said. “We didn’t play our best in the first half, but we came back to tie it up in the second half. We didn’t get the second-chance points we needed to pull ahead and there were a few mistakes and critical calls that could have changed the outcome of the game.”
Brady Reynolds had six points, Coletin Gascho and Ross Hunter both had four, Tyler Carpenter finished with three and Alex Stafford had two. Gascho led the team with seven rebounds, Reynolds grabbed five and Carpenter had four. Carpenter and Gascho recorded six and five assists respectively.
