The Kalamazoo Central boys varsity basketball team earned a 42-36 victory Tuesday against Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference play.
Darius Pruitt led the Maroon Giants with 11 points and Dayvion Smith finished with nine, which included a 3-pointer in each of the first three quarters. Kalamazoo Central built a 15-5 first-quarter lead and increased its cushion to 26-18 at intermission. Eric Thomas chipped in six points, Ryan Rugano added five points, Trevon Gunter had four, Ryan Halloran totaled three and Muhamed Kamara had two for Kalamazoo Central.
Devin Marshall scored a team-high nine points for Portage Northern, followed by Michael Lincoln (eight), Cameron French (six), Tyler Amos (four), Tori Jackson (four), Kareem Williams (three) and Isaac Sykes (two).
