Listen live online Monday via JoeInsider.com as Mattawan hosts Portage Northern in boys basketball around 7:15 p.m., pending the JV game. This meeting was originally set for January 30, but Mattawan closed that Tuesday due to the flu.
It is the second meeting between the SMAC and district rivals, with Mattawan earning a 54-42 road win back on January 5. That loss started an eight-game losing streak for the Huskies, a grueling stretch with seven road games and seven opponents with a winning record. They finally snapped it in their most recent game Tuesday against Battle Creek Central, putting them at 4-11 overall.
Mattawan sits at 10-3 on the season, 5-3 since their victory at the igloo. The Wildcats began last week with a tight win over Gull Lake Monday, followed by a 49-43 road loss the next night at Stevensville Lakeshore.
For both teams, Monday’s contest begins a tough three-game week. The Huskies also deal with Lakeshore Wednesday, followed by Portage Central Friday. Mattawan gets Vicksburg Tuesday and Battle Creek Central Friday.
