Thursday was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader with the men’s and women’s varsity in action. However, Kalamazoo Valley has canceled the remainder of its women’s season. Although normally a powerhouse, the Cougar women struggled to a 1-11 mark, getting their only win in their most recent game on December 30. Injuries and ineligibility left the program with only five players. The team is expected to regroup in 2018-19.
The Kalamazoo Valley men enter Thursday at 3-9, going 2-4 in December. They’ve played once since Christmas, a 94-63 loss on December 30 at Henry Ford. The Cougars are averaging 71.6 points per game and allowing 80.4 per contest. Glen Oaks sits at 3-8, with their last game a 79-62 loss to Oakland on December 21. The Viking men are scoring 74 points per game and allowing 90.1. The Cougars won both meetings with Glen Oaks last season, 78-64 and 105-65. Kalamazoo Valley has won seven consecutive men’s meetings, the last Viking win was January 8, 2014.
